Director of School Operations
Jewish Day School in Brooklyn seeking Director of Operations for the 2021-2022 school year.
Position Summary: The primary role of the Director of Operations is to manage operational functions for the school. The successful candidate will partner with the Executive Director in leading operational management.
The Operations Manager must be creative and enjoy working within a small, entrepreneurial environment that is mission- and results-driven, and community-oriented. They must have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. They will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of the building operations
Supervise building-related projects including renovations, significant repairs, and maintenance
Plan and implement periodic preventative & inspection/maintenance programs for building systems including but not limited to, HVAC, roofing, environmental assessments
Supervise the management of information technology (IT); serve as point person for staff to address technology challenges; manage relationships with IT consultants and vendors; Periodically evaluate technology needs and manage procurement, implementation, and training
Responsible for food service and catering operations, and the implementation of kashrut policies across the school, which includes our full-day preschool and K-8 school
Oversee school safety operations including building security, emergency procedures, fire drills, etc; ensure that all safety and security protocols are maintained and ensure that potential weaknesses are addressed promptly
Manage, hire and supervise a team of operations personnel, including security, meal service, maintenance, site management, etc.
Manage building inventory and supplies
Develop process for set-ups, including managing requests, room use, inventory; Ensure readiness and adequate resources for holiday, program, and special events
Assist Executive Director with preparation and submission of grant applications and reports to ensure accuracy and adherence to deadlines; oversee preparation of budgets for applications and preparation of budget and operational reports for grant projects; monitor grant activities to ensure compliance
Help with other aspects of grant applications and reports as needed.
Qualifications:
Experience in operational management is preferred
Experience in facility administration, including preventive maintenance.
Experience with acquiring and supporting a range of technology
Self-initiator with strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate well (both orally and in writing); ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities.
Enthusiastic, organized, highly motivated, responsible, courteous, discreet, flexible, and creative. Has a sense of humor.
Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with meticulous attention to detail.
Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Highly resourceful self-starter, with the ability to take initiative and be effective independently.
Strong skills in staff management
Experience in adjusting to unexpected circumstances, challenges, and events; flexibility and grace under pressure
Experience in developing a collaborative, inclusive culture that fosters continuous improvement and accountability
Passion, humility, a sense of humor, integrity, resilience, and a positive attitude.
Salary & Benefits: $55,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience. Additionally, this full-time position is benefits-eligible. The employer contributes a portion of medical, and offers Basic Life Insurance. Paid sick leave. Generous vacation time package including Jewish and American holidays and the ability to leave early for Shabbat and Jewish holidays. Flexible work environment.
The start date for this role will be Summer 2021.
